Episode 42: Cheryl Bachelder
Cheryl Bachelder joins me for Episode 42. I am truly excited to introduce her to you. On the personal side, she has been married for 35 years and raised three girls. And professionally, she is the CEO of Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen. She is hands down one of the smartest women I've met. She leads a company of 50-60,000 employees with such grace and humility. She is very approachable and kind.
So many listeners of Surviving Sarah are leading somewhere--whether it is in the corporate world or a non-profit organization or in a school or a home. Look around. I guarantee someone is looking up to you or following your example. And I knew that Cheryl's advice to leading would be so applicable to you--and me. We talk about the other side of leadership--humility and serving others. @@We also talk about being a woman in a male world, how she handled life not going according to her plan and how to deal with failure.@@

Takeaways from this episode:
- I have to tell you that I convicted a few times throughout our talk. One of those ways was in the way in which I can judge others. @@Just because my convictions look differently than yours, doesn't mean what you are doing is wrong.@@ Just as I have given much consideration to my decisions and convictions, I'm sure others have done the same. I want to approach relationships with that in mind.
- She gave really great advice for women in leadership. She said that "the hardest thing for young women leaders is getting to the place of confidence and conviction of who they want to be. You often feel like you need to become like everybody else. We become a feather in the wind. @@Women can help themselves the most by becoming self-aware of their purpose and priorities.Stop comparing yourself.@@ Live your life for an audience of one. Stop living for multiple audiences. We each have our gifting and principles. @@It is a treasure that we are all different. Be okay with what she is doing and encourage one another.@@"
- I also loved her advice on how to determine your purpose and convictions. What do you value? What is your life experience? What are your strengths? Let that determine your purpose statement on why you get up and go to work (whether that's in a business or at home). Ask your if you did you do any of that today and hold yourself accountable to purpose.
- The very last thing she said was right on for me--@@When we are anxious, could we not anticipate a great adventure?@@
