Episode 207: Ashley LeMieux

Ashley LeMieux joins me around the table today. She has made a career out of helping others reignite the light within them. As founder and CEO of The Shine Project, she launched both a movement and a company that empowers women in myriad ways, including teaching first-generation college students how to produce handmade products that they can then sell as employees of The Shine Project.

We talk about how when she was only a college student she saw a problem facing some youth and she worked to solve that problem. We also talk about her first book, Born To Shine. With that she talks about walking through a hard, dark time in life where they faced a contested adoption and ultimately lost the kids. Life didn’t end with a pretty bow on top. And then we unearth some beautiful conversation about what it looks like to show up in the biggest fight of your life and what you need to show up with. We all love hearing stories about miracles, but what if your miracle doesn’t come? If you can relate to that, you’ll love this episode.

Takeaways:

  • What do you show up with when you are in the biggest fight of your life? Love.

  • What would happen if we showed up for ourselves in love? What difference would it make in the relationships around you? I think our challenge should be this week is to write out a list of 3 things you like about yourself everyday. And if you have children, I think you should encourage them to do the same. We need to teach our kids how to do this so that they will know how to do it on their own. What amazing things can happening our home and world when we start to shine from the inside out.

  • If we can find a smaller starting place, we will be surprised at where that goes and the impact it can make.

Discussion Questions:

  • What is the biggest fight of your life?

  • What have you faced in life that didn’t get wrapped up with a bow at the end?

  • Ashley talked about showing up to the biggest fight of your life with love. What would that look like in your “fight” right now?

  • What would it look like to show up with love for yourself?
